This has a rich, buttery smell and a really great butter flavor. I’ve used it in both cooking and baking and have gotten wonderful results each time. It’s oil-soluble, so there were a few recipes where it didn’t work as well, but overall I still got pretty good results. It mixes in easily with most things I’ve tried.
I also like that it’s only 40 calories per teaspoon, which makes it a nice lighter option. I wouldn’t say it’s a complete substitute for real butter, but it definitely delivers a delicious buttery flavor that works well in a lot of recipes.
I love these organic extracts; I have a quite a few of them from this brand and they're all wonderful. I was super happy to get this one to use in my home-made cornbread, it ups that buttery flavor in it and compliments the corn flavor so well. The extracts are straight forward and easy to use; they can also be used for a wide variety of baking or other things; sky's the limit for what you can think to make with it. It's lovely that it's only made with 3 ingredients, without alcohol being added. It's a nice strong concentration; I found I didn't have to use too much to be effective. I added 2 teaspoons to my recipe, and it added nice flavor. Overall, I love these extracts, and I think they are nice quality and a nice value too!

Organic Butter Extract for Baking, Ice Cream, Drinks and Candy - 2 Oz - Oil-Soluble - By Harvest Moon Delights - Butter Flavoring, Flavor
First impressions: Nice bottle of butter extract for baking or other uses. There is a good amount in the bottle and the bottle is a dark color to keep light out. The liquid smells like butter.
Installation/setup: Add to your baking or other uses.
Final thoughts: I added this to my regular recipe I use in my bread machine for dinner rolls. I usually use real butter but I substituted this for once. My family didn’t seem to notice I had changed it so I guess that’s a good thing. The extract seems to be a good thing and I’m glad I got it.
⭐️1 star - I don't recommend it at all, poor quality.
⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I don't recommend it, it has multiple faults, or a very high price.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - It's passable, It has some faults but the quality is ok for what it is.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Product quite acceptable, it does what it promises.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Product that I totally recommend.
I got this organic butter extract for a keto butter pecan cheesecake I was making for my small group. I do a lot of organic baking, and I always look for real ingredients and especially organic ingredients for my dishes. When I saw this butter extract, I literally cheered because it’s hard to find some of the more specialty extracts in an organic option. The cheese cheesecake came out incredible. As I was baking it, the room filled up with this amazing buttery flavor. I also added it to the caramel pecan topping. My guests raved about this cheesecake and was even disappointed the next day at another small group I went to, and took the blueberry one that I normally take, and which has been their favorite, was disappointed that I hadn’t brought another butter pecan one. I will definitely be buying this one again.
I had never used butter extract before, so I was excited to see how it would taste! I tried using this extract in some cherry muffins as well as in cottage pudding. I was a little put off by the smell of the extract at first, but I decided I would still give it a try, and I am glad I did. It definitely adds a subtle buttery taste that isn't too overwhelming. In the cherry muffins, you could tell a slight difference, but the cottage pudding was like a buttery bomb! Sooooo good!! I'd say this is a good pantry addition for anyone who likes to bake! I'm going to try adding it to homemade gluten free bread next!
This organic butter extract is a nice little upgrade for anyone who does a lot of baking, ice cream or candy making. The flavor is rich and definitely gives that buttery boost, especially in frostings and homemade ice cream. I like that it’s oil-soluble, which makes it really easy to work into recipes where water based extracts just don’t blend as well. A little goes a long way, so the small bottle should last quite a while.
The flavor can be a bit strong if you’re not careful with measurements. It’s easy to overdo it and end up with something that tastes slightly artificial rather than naturally buttery. I wish it came with a dropper.
Overall, it’s a solid product that delivers on flavor and versatility, just requires a light hand for best results.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this product. I’ve used extracts from Harvest Moon Delights before, and they’ve all been top-tier, but...butter extract? I couldn’t quite wrap my head around it. So naturally I had to try it for myself.
And...it’s exactly what it claims to be. Concentrated butter flavor in a bottle. And when I say concentrated, I mean HIGHLY concentrated. For my first test, I added half a teaspoon to a batch of butter pecan ice cream, and the butter flavor was so strong that it overpowered just about everything else. It was ice cream that smelled and tasted like movie theater popcorn.
On the plus side, I learned that popcorn-flavored ice cream, while not as bad as it sounds, probably isn’t going to be the next big thing.
Still, if you’re going to use this product, do yourself a favor and add it a few drops at a time. A little goes a very, very long way.
The price is a little steep at $15 for a 2oz bottle, but given how little you need to get a rich buttery flavor, I’d say it’s worth it.

IN A NUTSHELL:
A concentrated, oil-soluble butter extract with a strong, authentic buttery aroma that works well in baked goods and breakfast dishes. I used it in banana bread and French toast, and it noticeably boosted the flavor and made the whole house smell like a bakery. It’s versatile enough for popcorn, pancakes, cookies, mashed potatoes, and even ice cream, and I plan on trying it in a few of those next. The only drawback is the price — at around fifteen dollars for a 2-ounce bottle, it’s higher than standard grocery-store extracts, but you only need a few drops at a time.
FULL REVIEW:
This organic butter extract has a surprisingly strong and authentic buttery aroma — when I first opened the bottle, the smell immediately made me want popcorn. I haven’t tried it on popcorn yet, but based on how concentrated it is, I definitely plan to. A few drops mixed into melted oil or butter should work well.
I’ve already used it in banana bread and French toast. In banana bread, it added a richer buttery flavor, especially since my recipe uses oil instead of butter. The extract helped fill in that missing “buttery bakery” note without changing the texture. In French toast, a few drops mixed into the egg and milk mixture made the entire kitchen smell warm and buttery as it cooked.
This extract is extremely concentrated, so a little goes a long way. The product page recommends up to a teaspoon, but in real-world use, just a few drops are usually enough. I appreciate that it’s oil-soluble, organic, and made with clean ingredients — no artificial flavors, dyes, or preservatives. The glass bottle is also a plus for preserving flavor.
Beyond what I’ve tried so far, this extract has a lot of versatility. It can be used in pancakes, waffles, cookies, cakes, muffins, mashed potatoes, popcorn, and even ice cream or Ninja Creami recipes. I plan on experimenting with a few of these, especially popcorn and pancakes.
The only downside is the price. At around fifteen dollars for a 2-ounce bottle, it’s more expensive than typical grocery-store extracts. But considering how little you need per recipe, the bottle should last a long time.
Overall, this is a high-quality butter extract that adds a noticeable boost of buttery flavor to both sweet and savory dishes. If you want more buttery aroma without adding extra fat, this is a great option.
I really like this brand for their extracts because they label things gluten free. Since we've got a in the family this makes it very helpful. This particular butter one does have milk listed as an ingredient so if you have dairy issues you might want to consider that That said we have also some mild dairy intolerances in the family and this doesn't seem to bother them. I add a little bit of this to the gluten free cake mixes and it really does up the flavor. Gluten free mixes tend to a little bit drier and I think the extra oil helps a little bit too. These are good quality extracts that are worth the price. Photo with water bottle for scale of bottle. The bottle is glass so don't drop it.
Unfortunately I dropped and busted my bottle of butter extract before I could get a picture BUT!!!! This extract smells like butter and added an awesome flavor to my cupcakes and icing. I will most definitely be buying again as it's something I will keep in my baking stash. It has a nice, yellow color, smell, and flavor. It doesn't have a chemical or overt alcohol flavor as another brand of butter extract I bought recently had. This is the 2nd extract from this brand that I've received recently & they're fabulous so this isn't a one hit wonder from this company. I bake a lot of breads and pastries and this company will be my new go to for all flavors. I don't have the extract to show you but the cupcake & icing have the flavor.
This is really good in likeness to real butter, but it has such a strong flavor and aroma that it easily overtakes in your recipes. Used to test this out by adding only half a teaspoon in a batch of pancakes and it was pretty much all I could taste. Also, it has a yellow tint to it but it doesn't transfer into your food or dishes as easily. A huge plus at least is that it has a really good aftertaste, most times with butter extracts it has that off-putting and strong chemical aftertaste that i end up toning down with more sugar or spices. Definitely recommended, but it's so unexpectedly strong is all!
I’ve been gradually collecting all the extracts from Harvest Moon Delight over the past year. I’ve enjoyed using them in my various recipes so much. I just received the Butter Extract. The scent alone is amazing. It comes in a 2 ounce glass bottle and it’s completely organic and gluten free. That’s important to me. I know that the butter extract would be amazing in cookies and cakes, but I tried it in potatoes this week. My husband loves mashed potatoes and the more butter, the better. So instead of using quite so much butter, I substituted some butter extract and mixed it in with the butter. He didn’t even notice the difference. I’m a big fan of these extracts and love that they are made in the USA.
I have a few extracts from this company, Harvest Moon, and like almost all of them. They seem to make quality extracts that easily and very conveniently enhance my baking and drinks like coffee/tea.
-comes in a glass vial that you POUR the extract out of all. I've written this before and will write this again - the single greatest opportunity is their glass vial. It would be AMAZING if they could add a dropper to the glass bottle. Extracts are super, super concentrated and I find a little always pours/slips down the side. Sometimes, dependent on how much you need, it could be the equivalent of enough for an entire cake or drink. It's so wasteful and no matter how careful I am, some extract slips down the side.
-scent is distinctly rich and buttery
-does impart a rich, buttery taste - I used it to flavor some oil I was putting on popcorn
A good quality extract for many different purposes.
This extract has a real butter taste.
We use this product to mimic the apple pie flavor when making apple sauce.
Gives more flavor to recipes than actual butter
Took my Poundcake to the next level!! Just a 1/4 teaspoon was all I needed! Great value for your money! Good quality
Butter extract is my secret ingredient for all my baking. I add it to everything, but especially chocolate chip cookies. I obviously tested this on my recipe, my commitment to the review was that strong, and definitely not because I was looking for an excuse to eat cookies. I really like the flavoring and what it brings to a recipe. It has a nice buttery scent, it's concentrated the way you'd expect from extract. It's pretty much within the norm for the bottle size and price. I generally like this brand too and this continues that trend.

havent used this yet-but the smell is exactly like real butter-I'm a butter girl and I should know. I could drink this -the smell is bright, bold and spot on -can't wait to use for royal icing
Harvest Moon Delights’ extracts are incredible, and this one is no exception! This extract can be added into such a large variety of dishes. My favorite so far is adding a little to the oil I pop popcorn in. It gives it a noticeably richer flavor that along with movie theater seasoning, makes it taste so buttery without getting soggy. My other favorite way to use this extract is to add it to my bread dough. It is very concentrated, so a tiny bit is all that is needed to make a big difference in flavor. I like that it’s clear and doesn’t change the appearance of anything I add it to. I would definitely recommend this if you want more buttery flavor in your life!

I recently tried the Harvest Moon Delights Organic Butter Extract and it has a rich, creamy butter flavor that blends easily into frostings without changing the texture. I like that it is oil soluble, which makes it especially good for recipes where you do not want to add actual butter or extra fat. A little goes a long way, so the 2 oz bottle lasts quite a while with regular use. The flavor feels smooth and natural, and it helps boost that classic buttery taste. I also appreciate that it is organic and made for baking and candy making too. Overall, it is a simple but effective flavoring that enhances recipes without much effort. Thank you!
